Malaysia is set to hold the world’s largest halal trade fair in April this year. The Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) will be held in the country’s capital Kuala Lumpur from April 1 to 3.

Malaysia’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry, the organizer of the trade fair, in a statement said that the theme of MIHAS will be “Expand Your Halal Horizon”. Over 1,200 booths of companies from different countries around the world will be featuring halal-certified and trade-ready manufacturers, suppliers, buyers and distributors.
MIHAS, which was first held in 2004, is expected to attract greatest number of participants this year, with about 35,000 visitors from 90 countries.

MIHAS 2020 will be largely focusing on the agenda of sustainability, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, a press release by the organizers said.

According to Malaysian government data, the global halal food market is expected to reach $1.97 trillion by 2024, while the total Muslim population is expected to increase from 1.8 billion to 3 billion by 2060.
