Jeddah: Muallim, an English monthly magazine focusing on the lifestyle of Muslims, was launched in Jeddah on Wednesday, July 5, 2013.

This is the flagship publication of Blossom Media, India’s only research, advisory and media firm focusing on the emerging Muslim consumer market.
Indian Consul General Faiz Ahmad Kidwai presided over the function, which was attended by Mohammed Raghib Qureshi, head of chancery and consul (education); Dr. Irshad Ahmad, consul, press, information and culture; Hasan Ghias, Binzagr deputy president; Danish Abdul Ghafour, managing director, Drive Direct; Zia Nadwi, director, DPS School-Jeddah and Nadim Nadwi, president, Saudi Cricket Center.

“Muslims in India form the second largest majority. There was a dearth of literature for Muslims well versed in the English language. Sensing the need to guide the youth and urban Muslims in line with the Qur’an and the Sunnah, Muallim magazine came into existence,” said Maulana Ubaidur Rahman Qasmi, managing director and editor in chief.

“We have successfully published a special supplement entitled ‘Achievers from the Muslim Ummah’ and I am here to bring out another supplement on ‘Indian Muslims Excelling in Saudi Arabia,’” he said. “Our aim is to connect the Muslim Ummah with the Qur’an and the Sunnah, to spread and cultivate the true image of Islam and Muslims, and promote peace and harmony.”

“The content and printing quality of Muallim magazine is on par with international titles,” said Kidwai. “The content will surely guide the youth, back in India, to follow and feel enriched about their lifestyle which is derived from the glorious Qur’an and the noble Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him),” he said.

Dr. Khaliluddin Shujauddin Tumandar, a physician at the Grand Mosque and advisory board member of Muallim, said: “As the content is based on the Qur’an and the Sunnah, it can be a point of reference not only for Indian Muslims but for all residing in any part of the world.”

The magazine’s editorial and advisory board is a mix of Islamic theologians and intellectuals. It addresses the religious and socio-economic concerns of Muslim families across the world.

The first issue was inaugurated by Khaled bin Ali Al-Ghamdi, one of the imams of the Grand Mosque, in India in May last year.

Zakariya Biladi is the representative of the magazine in Saudi Arabia. It is available online at www.muallim.in.
